WHAT IS ADAPTIVE MOUNTAIN BIKING?

Adaptive mountain biking (aMTB) races allow people who can’t ride a standard mountain bike to compete. aMTB races are a natural progression for the sport, as adaptive mountain bikes have become more capable and can handle a wider range of trails. An adaptive mountain bike (AMTB) is a bike that is modified to fit the needs of an individual rider and are designed specifically for people with disabilities so they accommodate the riders’ specific needs and physical abilities. Adaptive riders are permitted to have a support rider trail them and the course is adaptive specific and wide enough for a trike to fit the trails.

NEED A SUPPORT RIDER? OR INTERESTED IN HELPING?

If you don’t have a support rider that can ride with you on that day, please let us know asap and we can help find a suitable volunteer support rider for you. Email [email protected]

If you are interested in being a support rider*, please get in touch with us also! Email [email protected]

(*Support riders will need to have some basic mechanical knowledge, physical strength and fitness, and ideally riding an ebike as the adaptive riders will almost always have a motor and you will need to keep up).

aMTB’s do a loop starting and finishing at the Forrest Football Ground. The course then joins Hennigan Cres and goes uphill to the junction with Yaugher Rd. At this point aMTBs turn right and do the Red Carpet / Riverside / PDJ loop (7km) a second time for heaps of single track fun.

Additional notes for adaptive riders:

  • support riders must be registered and have a ‘Support Rider’ number plate displayed
  • adaptive riders are welcome to park on the grass of the football ground surface – your names will be on the gate
  • there is an accessible toilet located behind the ‘ladies lounge’, near registration for your usage
  • we recommend getting to the start line early, before the kids in the 10km race swamp the road and block access
